What were you doing at 24? Stuck in the mail room, dreaming of the corner office? Sofa surfing? Going through senior year – again? Still finding yourself out there?
Safe to say you had not “made it.” You probably weren’t at the very pinnacle of your profession. You certainly weren’t establishing career scoring records, smashing marks at globally iconic sporting clubs, records that have stood for more than 50 years – and doing so at this wildly implausible age.
The incomparable Leo Messi broke Barcelona’s all-time scoring record Tuesday, recording a hat trick in a 5-3 win over Granada at the Nou Camp. Two more on the night left him with 234.
Just 17 minutes into the historic evening, his 232nd career strike matched the record set by Cesar Rodriguez 57 years ago.
Did we mention that Messi is just 24?
There’s a good account and nice photos here, from the Daily Mail.
The club’s account at the official Barcelona FC website is here.
