It’s Herculez Gomez’s world, and the rest of us … Well, you know what they say.
Gomez has 11 goals in Santos’ last eight games. So tongues are a’ waggin’ on whether the former MLS man will, won’t, should, shouldn’t, might or might not be summoned into Jurgen Klinsmann’s training camp next month in Orlando.
Of course, there’s also some idle chatter about whether Gomez, who is originally from Los Angeles but grew up in Las Vegas, might make another pass through Don Garber Valley, joining an MLS side in the summer transfer window.
He has a little something to say about that in an extensive interview with Christopher McCollum of Yanks Abroad.
Lost somewhat in all the Herc hoopla is this: Jozy Altidore continues to have a dandy season for AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands. So, rattle that around your armchair-quarterbacking head.
Given all that, what does the U.S. depth chart at striker look like at the moment? This is what we assume Jurgen Klinsmann’s fluid blackboard would look like, if we slipped a fiber optic lens, Mission Impossible-style, through the air vents at the U.S. manager’s Home Depot Center office for a peek at that thing.
(For our depth chartage, Clint Dempsey is a forward. Yes, we all know Dempsey can and has – most often, in fact – operated out of the midfield.)
- 1. Clint Dempsey
- 2. Jozy Altidore
- 3. Juan Agudelo*
- 4. Terrence Boyd
- 5. Herculez Gomez
- 6. Chris Wondolowski
- 7. Teal Bunbury
- 8. Edson Buddle

All Gomez does is score. How could he not be at the top of our goal-challenged team’s list? Dempsey/Donovan at midfield and Gomez/Altidore up top with Agudelo off the bench sounds pretty good to me

No matter how much i hate the guy for the way he plays with his club team we need to respect that the guy can score goals, how can he not be right after dempsy on the depth chart. I guess i hate his club team more then him but the attitude sucks, basically saying that MLS sucks means that he thinks US soccer sucks so why should he get a call up.

Can we break down the forwards,
1. Clint Dempsey obvious #1 one of the best we have ever had2. Jozy Altidore, over rated and not a scorer, wont amount to much more than he already has
3. Juan Agudelo* too slow to have a long term impact, almost too slow for the MLS too, not suprized he doesnt play much for the club team
4. Terrence Boyd, he hopefully proves he can score because he physicly will be our biggest forward
5. Herculez Gomez, start to play him, he scores at will for the club, give him a chance it cant get any worse.
6. Chris Wondolowski, good club striker but cant take it to the next step just like Taylor Twellman, unbelievable at MLS but wasnt big or fast enough for the US team, (this could be the same for Gomez but you need to try it again with him, get Torres and Gomez on the field together.
7. Teal Bunbury, what is wrong with this guy, looked like he could be the guy and now he looks terrible.
8. Edson Buddle, not good enough, maybe move him up to #6.
