What we’re thinking, what we’re watching, what’s coming on the blog today and the RASNoD (Random American Soccer Name of the Day). Setting up your day in soccer …
Birthdays of note: Can you still rock a young man’s cut at age 30? It’s now a question Kyle Beckerman must ask himself. The U.S. international and Real Salt Lake midfielder turns 30 today.
Big Important story of the day: Americans abroad just keep scoring. Clint Dempsey let someone else do it for a change at Fulham. But Jozy Altidore hit his fifth in five games for AZ Alkmaar in Holland. (We’d all be going on and on about Altidore’s fantastic season for the Dutch Eredivisie’s second-place team if it weren’t for Dempsey’s absolutely phenomenal run.) Meanwhile, DaMarcus Beasley has put together quite a season at Puebla, scoring again over the weekend in a loss to Club America.
Ahead on the blog today*: Monday “Meh” list, where we look at things slightly overrated in our game. Also, ProSoccerTalk’s MLS Player of the Week (a pretty easy call if you saw what happened yesterday in Washington, D.C.) and our MLS Team of the Week.
RASNoD (Random American Soccer Name of the Day): Hank Steinbrecher
Twitter dap: Seattle Sounders winger Steve Zakuani (@stevezakuani11), still on the mend from a terrible leg break suffered last year in Denver: “One year ago today I lost everything I worked for. Nowhere near where I once was but working to get back. Patience & Perseverance!”
PST background noise while blogging today: Feeling very indie, so Alabama Shakes plus Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and other new-ish stuff on the iTunes.
*Always subject to change; you know how it is
