News gets worse and worse for Italy international Giuseppe Rossi

Getty Images The news truly is devastating for injured American-born Italian international Giuseppe Rossi, who will need another 10 months to achieve full recovery.
Rossi’s terrible timeline of injury began last October, when he lost more than five months to a serious knee injury. The Villarreal attacker was playing his way back into fitness when a training ground injury on April 13 threw up the next road block.
Now comes news that he will need two surgeries and miss the next 10 months.
That timetable puts him back on the field in February. Allowing for time to regain confidence in the badly damaged right knee, he’ll see little of the 2012-13 La Liga season.
Since Rossi was injured in October and missed most of the current campaign, the New Jersey native will not have played anything close to a full season since Villarreal’s 2011-12 season.
Rossi, who moved to Italy at age 12, already knew he would miss the year’s European Championship for Italy. Now it seems certain that he’ll miss much of Italy’s World Cup qualifying campaign. First matches in UEFA qualifying for World Cup 2014 are Sept. 7; Group play runs through mid-October of 2013.
