First goal in MLS today … and a darn fine one

May 5, 2012, 5:57 PM EDT

You could probably trace D.C. United’s downfall last year to Chris Pontius’ September injury. United was doing well – then it all went pear shaped.

When you watch strikes like this one, it’s easy to see how his absence might land with such harsh impact. The first goal of seven MLS matches today belongs to Pontius, who nailed a gem to give his team a lead over Toronto FC.

This is Pontius’ fourth goal this year.
