Getty Images Nobody goes streaking like Fredy Montero. Nobody in MLS, at any rate.
And it certainly looks like the Seattle Sounders striker is off and flying on his next big run of goal scoring delight.
Montero didn’t have a goal to his name in 2012 until last week’s laser beauty against Los Angeles.
Over the weekend, his big pass across the field to Mauro Rosales helped make the day in a 1-0 win over Philadelphia.
And last night in Dallas, Montero came off the bench to fire a pair past goalkeeper Kevin Hartman in a 2-0 Sounders road win. Yes, Seattle’s DP striker came off the bench.
Seattle, with a packed slate of games in May, will need to rest players here and there. So Sigi Schmid had planned all along to play Rosales in the first half and Montero after intermission. The plan worked to absolute perfection, as Montero’s double in Texas gave the Sounders all the points.
Full match highlights are here, including a whopper of a save just before halftime from rookie goalkeeper Bryan Meredith that helped turn the match in Seattle’s favor.

It is official. FC Dallas is aweful. So when will we be relieved of having to sit through terrible games with mediocre (sp?) players and a coach without a clue?

This is a team two years removed from having been runner’s up in the MLS Cup Final and setting numerous team records in 2010 which has now been largely gutted of much of their midfield and forward talents and is still staying in games with top-notch teams. Hyndman’s knack of bringing in skilled players and filling gaps. Getting Marcelin from Portland is probably one of the best midseason pickups in the league this year. Dallas need more midfield stability, and Marcelin needs playing time. Before 2010, who would’ve thought Perez would be in the league? Or Rodriguez? Both have added tremendous success to the club and have anchored the defense and the attack.
As Steve said below, being without seven of your usual starters and still being able to hang with the top team in MLS right now is not small feat. If Montero wouldn’t have peaked last week against LA, this game could’ve easily been a scoreless draw. Give Hyndman and FCD a bit of credit. Their on-field performances have surpassed their current record. All it’ll take for them to get back into the thick of the standings are a couple slip ups by teams like Vancouver and Colorado, and the return of their scoring talent. Also, Shea needs to get out of his slump and get fully healthy again. If those things happen, Dallas is a dangerous team to play against.

I honestly just don’t agree about FC Dallas. I understand that fans are passionate and want to see their clubs win. I respect that, in fact. But the team I saw last night had two starters who are journeymen, who weren’t even with the team two weeks ago. By my count, seven first-choice starters couldn’t start. And yet, the team was in the game against a Seattle team that’s probably the best side in MLS at the moment.
