Getty Images Nobody goes streaking like Fredy Montero. Nobody in MLS, at any rate.
And it certainly looks like the Seattle Sounders striker is off and flying on his next big run of goal scoring delight.
Montero didn’t have a goal to his name in 2012 until last week’s laser beauty against Los Angeles.
Over the weekend, his big pass across the field to Mauro Rosales helped make the day in a 1-0 win over Philadelphia.
And last night in Dallas, Montero came off the bench to fire a pair past goalkeeper Kevin Hartman in a 2-0 Sounders road win. Yes, Seattle’s DP striker came off the bench.
Seattle, with a packed slate of games in May, will need to rest players here and there. So Sigi Schmid had planned all along to play Rosales in the first half and Montero after intermission. The plan worked to absolute perfection, as Montero’s double in Texas gave the Sounders all the points.
Full match highlights are here, including a whopper of a save just before halftime from rookie goalkeeper Bryan Meredith that helped turn the match in Seattle’s favor.
