Over in England, the annual game of managerial musical chairs is off to a ripping start. (No pun intended, sorry Carlos Tevez.)
Aston Villa has already kicked Alex McLeish to the curb. Reports say that Wigan manager Roberto Martinez may be in the Villa sights.
Norwich City’s Paul Lambert and Swansea City’s Brendan Rodgers may also be in the running for Villa Park, although Lambert may be on West Bromwich Albion’s radar. West Brom needs a new man in charge because Roy Hodgson just took the England national team position.
Martinez has done wonders at frugal Wigan, where just remaining in the Premiership is an annual achievement.
Meanwhile, the future is anything but set for Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, who recently flew to Boston to meet with the club’s U.S.-based owners regarding the state of things.
Speaking of flying to the States: Aston Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner flew to America last week for personal personnel talks with U.S. owner Randy Lerner ahead of the weekend ax falling on McLeish.
As ProSoccerTalk’s Richard Farley pointed out: it really must be high indignity for English soccer chaps to fly over here, to the United States, noted soccer backwater, to talk about important matters of employment.
