United’s Dwayne De Rosario may need a bigger award’s shelf

De Rosario 2

We choose our own Player of the Week at ProSoccerTalk, so we usually don’t feel compelled to write about the league’s official choice – which is actually the official choice of the North American Soccer Reporters, who vote weekly.

No disrespect going the other way, I promise. We just prefer to choose our own.

In this case, it’s worth mentioning that Dwayne De Rosario just claimed the official weekly prize for the 10th time in his fabulous career. Only one man (Jeff Cunningham with 14) has earned more.

By the way, De Rosario needs two more goals to become the seventh MLS man to reach 100. And then he needs two more after that to push past Taylor Twellman into sixth place on the all-time scorer’s list, which currently looks like this:

  • Jeff Cunningham       134
  • Jaime Moreno          133
  • Landon Donovan       117
  • Ante Razov              114
  • Jason Kreis              108
  • Taylor Twellman        101
  • Dwayne De Rosario   98

Always have a soft spot for De Ro, considering what he did for the Dynamo organization. #foreverorange
