Don’t forget, when Jurgen Klinsmann’s national team meets Scotland on Saturday in Florida, his stack of attackers will be on the shorter side.
When the games mean something (June 8 in Tampa Bay, the first 2014 World Cup qualifier) we’re sure to see Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey in some arrangement as the tip of Klinsmann’s offensive spear. And won’t that be a hoot, considering the drop-dead gorgeous numbers those two just assembled during domestic seasons in Holland and England?
But we’ll see nothing of the sort Saturday against the European middleweights.
As we discussed on the blog earlier, Dempsey is almost sure to be in street clothes as the Americans line up against Craig Levein’s Scots (8 p.m. ET kickoff on NBC Sports Network).
And Altidore has yet to report, still soaking in some valuable R&R following his season if accomplishment (individual and team-wise) at AZ Alkmaar.
But don’t take my word for it. Altidore can tell you more about it on the blog he’s writing these days for the New York Times.
