Expect to see a lot of this story in the coming days and weeks, because Brazilian attacking ace Ronaldinho is on the loose.
Big news broke out of Brazil late this week regarding the former AC Milan and Barcelona bright bulb. He’s at Flamengo now in Brazil. But it seems the pay for play model that we all know and trust around here is a little different down there sometimes.
See, club officials seem to be OK on the “play” part. On the pay part: not so great.
So Ronaldinho has been released from his contract with Brazilian power as part of a resolution of unpaid wages. The club owes him about $20 million.
(The photo shows headlines across Brazil on Friday about the scandal.)
Here’s why we should watch this one especially closely around here: Ronaldinho was linked heavily to the Galaxy a year ago. Ultimately, Ronaldinho signed with Flamengo, so Los Angeles aimed its checkbook elsewhere and turned up with Irish international Robbie Keane during the summer window.
Ronaldinho may or may not be bound for MLS. We’ll see.
But you can wager your next house payment that we’ll see the smiling Brazilian’s name attached to MLS rumors in ahead of the summer transfer period.
