I think the criticism might stem from people coming to expect Hart to make that stop. I think it’s far from a howler or the worst goal ever. I also don’t think it’s the type of shot Hodgson or England are happy seeing converted.

The big issue for me on the one is how deep the midfield was when the bal”s coming in from the right. Both Gerrard and Parker were near the spot, only a yard or two from their defenders. Obviously, Gerrard couldn’t get out in time to deal with Nasri.

It’s a harsh criticism, but the goal seemed pretty preventable.
