I can't watch the games during the day, but I saw a lot of commentary about possible offside on Spain's goal and I just got to watch the highlights. It seems to be CLEARLY ONSIDE. While the camera angles admittedly aren't the greatest, the play happened to be positioned such that you can judge it by the demarcations in the grass. (The lines between light green grass and dark green grass). On the first pass, as the ball is played, the Croatian defender has his left leg right on the boundary between dark and light. The Spanish player looks to be well short of the boundary, with the possible exception of his hand/arm. Which aren't considered in the offside analysis. On the second pass, the Italian player with the ball is clearly a couple of feet beyond the boundary and on light green grass, and the recipient is clearly standing on the boundary (about one foot behind the ball) when the pass is made. Is it close? Sure, it's close. And an impossible call to make live. However replay clearly shows that both passes were onside.
