Quick-hit list of people, places and things we noticed over the weekend that land on the over-done or overly praised side. Not necessarily awful but, you know, just “meh.”
- Spain-France
- Fernando Torres being “back”
- Florent Malouda
- England
- Criticism of England today (Because, honestly, did anybody really expect something more given the talent available?)
- Italian chances against Germany
- Sitting back in defense
- Journalistic stretching to tie the Greek-German economic skirmish to Greece-Germany on the field
- Truffles
- “Moles” in the German camp
- Tight camera angles on the run of play
- Rafa Marquez attempting any kind of defensive work
- Roy Miller
- Dismissal of conditions as a “dry” heat
- Any MLS “rivalry” outside a very select few (both matches Sunday pass the “genuine” test, clearly)
- Players who cite “passionate fans” or “passionate owner” for a new contract, as an obvious proxy for “big salary”
- My own analysis of Sporting Kansas City as “back to early-season form.” Blek!

Yes, we actually expected them to look capable of stringing more than 2 passes together.

No kidding…this is England we are talking about. How has it gotten so bad that they play so scared against Italy – it’s not like they were playing Spain or anything. The US played them tougher.

The Superclasico used to be a pretty legit rivalry with a great atmosphere. However, since it’s become painfully obvious that CUSA is no longer trying to get a fan base (and by October will have tarped over 90% of the HDC’s seating capacity), it’s harder for LA fans to get up for those games.
