David Beckham heading to London again, apparently

Aug 2, 2012, 9:29 AM EDT

Seriously, now? Missing yet another match?

Major League Soccer’s highest paid man apparently has a role in the Olympic Closing Ceremonies, coming up in a little over a week. From the L.A. Galaxy Insider Twitter feed:

source:

Which might be OK – except that the closing ceremonies are Aug. 12, which happens to be the date of his team’s next date against next door neighbor Chivas USA.

Maybe we should have seen this coming, seeing as his wife was already expected to be there as part of the Spice Girls reunion performance. His wife Victoria is Posh Spice, of course – or don’t you remember the 90s?

The Galaxy didn’t seem to miss its midfield playmaker over the weekend, getting all three points out of a trip to FC Dallas. (Landon Donovan was away for that one, too.)

Do you think they’ll let him inside the stadium this time?

I’m a Galaxy supporter and while I know some fans get their panties in a twist over this stuff, it just kinda goes with the territory. Beckham misses so many games anyway due to age and injuries that it just isn’t that big of a deal to me. Plus….it’s this kind of stuff that makes him the “popular icon” that he is.

It might be nice to have a young Beckham who plays the full 90 every game and burns for his team, but that just isn’t reality. Maybe the Galaxy told him they’d allow this sort of stuff when they resigned him even though PSG was offering a lot more money???

    It is what it is…

This is why LA won’t repeat this year. The team doesn’t want it bad enough. They proved it earlier this year and despite their brief resurgence, I don’t see it carrying them to the cup.

The Olympics are just another chance to promote Brand Beckham. Most British athletes this week have asked what they can do for their country. Shamelessly, Beckham seems only to be asking what his country can do for him. He screwed his Galaxy team over to promote himself but you get what you pay for and I’m sure the MLS is sorry they ever paid him $250 million. Beckham didn’t get the olympic attention he wanted in the games and the opening so he did this instead to make sure people saw him this time. So here is why the MLS let Beckham go to London: Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2183373/David-Beckham-This-shameless-bid-promote-Brand-white-cliffs-Dover.html#ixzz234kU58ft…less

Pearce made the right choice, Beckham isn’t as good as he used to be and it’s rare to see him do anything remotely great like he used to be for a couple of years! Beckham played the top of his game last month after his suspension and he almost broke his personal best in his soccer history but he walked away and I suspect he only did it to show Pearce he still had it? But I have to ask, why not play like that all the time if it’s still there? Beckham can play bad, leave, not play and screw his team and still get paid for it. Beckham played Seattle and the team got slaughtered then with no tears for his LA Galaxy team Beckham headed back to London for his spotlight once more. I’m sure what Beckham will do in the closing ceremony will probably be a pure ego trip for him and his family and I’m sure a disgrace to see during the closing Olympics. I heard that his wife Victoria might make them all matching clothing from the Union Jack Flag? I wonder, if Victoria does reunite with the Spice Girls, will she sing or just stand there and pose with her botox face unable to smile for the audience? I’d close my eyes but I miss the comedy of the year!!!

David Beckham claimed he had a role in the Olympic Closing Ceremonies and wasn’t home for his team games or practice? Very odd because David Beckham did not have a role in the closing olympics. In fact he didn’t get any spotlight at all. Victoria did her Spice Girl songs with the group and even had a fashion show with models wearing the Beckham line but no David. Then his rich pal Lord Coe who kept saying how badly Beckham was treated for the past month, blah blah blah because he didn’t get to play on team GB and should have an olympic role and according to Lord Coe played a big part helping to bring the games to London didn’t even mention David Beckham in his speech at the end of the games. Then his team scored 4-0 against Chivas without him and didn’t need him there. If I were Beck’s I’d be hiding right about now which I think he is!
