It’s all about the hashtag in these London Games, so let’s look at what a few well-known faces from global soccer (and a couple of famous faces from lands beyond our game) are saying about the big bowl of Olympic drama that boiled over inside Old Trafford Stadium on Monday, the United States’ 4-3 win over Canada.
Heck, even Samuel L. Jackson is talking about this one.

If the I.O.C. (the international olympic commitee) would weed out incompetant and biased referees as readily as they weed out athletes who dope or who do not exemplify the olympic spirit, they would have a lot more credibility. Athletes work damn hard to get to the games, and should be rewarded in accordance with their efforts and abilities without having to worry about such officiating undermining their accomplishments. Every athlete from every country deserves at least that much consideration. Such officiating not only taints the event itself, but it taints the color of the medal the “winner” receives consequent to the bad decisions. The honorable thing to have done would not to have taken advantage of the bad call. This would have garnered the U.S. great esteem in the world community. Unfortunately,as expected for the American team, the consideration isn’t in how you win, it is simply in winning period
