U.S. international Bedoya puts the Rangers mess behind him

When Scottish giants Rangers collapsed into a spectacular heap of financial ruin earlier this year, we all assumed the American trio in Glasgow would head for the exits, and right quick.

Only, it didn’t happen that way. There’s been plenty of gossipy sizzle but not transfer steak where U.S. captain Carlos Bocanegra is concerned. He remains a Rangers man for now, although it seems inconceivable that we will be saying the same once the FIFA transfer window closes in a less than a month.

Bocanegra even played earlier this week as Rangers prevailed in a Scottish Communities League Cup match.

American midfielder Maurice Edu is effectively a free agent now, but we still don’t know much about where he’ll land in all this.

But the first American transfer domino has finally fallen, at least. Comes word this morning that Alejandro Bedoya, the lesser known of the U.S. trio at Rangers, has signed a one-year agreement with Swedish champions Helsingborg.

For Bedoya, who grew up in New Jersey and went to school at Boston College, Sweden is familiar territory. The U.S. midfielder’s first pro contract was with Örebro SK in that country.
