We know a little about the U.S. roster for Mexico friendly; Congrats, Matt Besler, Graham Zusi!

Word of today’s U.S. national team roster announcement is trickling out. Sporting Kansas City CEO Robb Heineman scooped the national team announcement by congratulating Matt Besler and Graham Zusi this morning via Twitter.

I doubt anyone around the national team will take this less-than-ideal development out on the players, but they surely aren’t happy about this.

The U.S. roster will be officially announced at 4 p.m. ET today. Manager Jurgen Klinsmann is being made available to the media via teleconference at 5 p.m. to talk about it.

This is all ahead of Wednesday’s friendly against Mexico at Estadio Azteca in our southern neighbor’s capital city (8 p.m. ET, ESPN2, ESPN3 and Univision).

Here’s the significance of Besler elbowing his way into the fray: Klinsmann remains open to fresh faces.

He has more or less picked his guys at this point – or so we thought. There can be no doubt, at least, that the bulk of kicking tires and test driving the players is done for Klinsmann. He’s invested a lot of time and energy into driving home certain ideas and bigger picture concepts; He certainly doesn’t want to keep covering the same ground with fresh waves of new arrivals.

And yet, here’s Besler, apparently. (There’s really no reason to believe Heineman got this wrong.)  Unlike Zusi, Besler wasn’t even in the MLS-heavy January camp. So Klinsmann  suddenly looks a little more flexible in his selections.

That means guys on the fringes of the national team pool, a Dax McCarty or a George John, for instance, can still have hope of finding their way into the national team scene.

Congrats to both guys!!!!! A sore loss to SKC in the middle of an injury-riddled second half of the season but a real feather in both their caps!

Graham is slowly learning to keep his head up on open field shots while still keeping his head down on corner kicks and penalty kicks. Witness his goal last night: head up, looking right into the goal mouth.

Matt has arms like a cannon! Anything inside 20 yards of the endline is just as good as a corner when Matt is throwing.

Whatever the lineup will be, i hope it’s able, if not pull an upset at Azteca, at least show a great perfomance which will give us greater confidence.

    Roster is on MLS.com now.

I know it’s “just” a friendly and all……but it’s Mexico. At Azteca. We want a win. I’d really like to have Michael Bradley on the team for this one, as well as Dempsey. Gonna be tough to pull this one out without Bradley in the middle.
