Brad Friedel still cannot be happy about Tottenham’s choice to import $18 million worth of competition for top spot in goal at White Hart Lane. But for now, at least, Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas says the job remains in the gloved hands of Friedel, the 41-year-old former U.S. international:

It was an amazing game. He saved us a couple of times from going 1-0 down, so he was outstanding. Obviously the competition increases for him but the place is his because he is a tremendous goalkeeper and he deserves that spot.”

The amazing performance in question came in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Norwich at White Hart Lane. Odds favored the home team – but Spurs required Friedel’s heroics just to manage the draw. It came a day after Tottenham acquired French captain Hugo Lloris from Lyon.
