Getty Images Terrible news for D.C. United and Dwayne De Rosario this morning, although it looks like recovery from the knee injury suffered last night in Canada’s World Cup qualifier will be more “weeks” than “months.”
There’s even a chance it could tilt toward “days.”
Steven Goff has the details here.
Bottom line is that “De Ro” will miss somewhere between 10 days and 4-5 weeks. Clearly, the former would be preferable for anyone around RFK Stadium.
Yes, Chris Pontius, Andy Najar, Nick DeLeon and Branko Boskovic are on the job. But there’s a better than zero chance that such a foursome will not be enough for the coming playoff push. De Rosario (and his 12 assists, second in MLS) will be required.
United is currently one spot out of the playoff race (see standings below). And given that United has four matches over the next two-and-a-half weeks, this looks alarming for the Black and Red.
Speaking of “Black and Red,” more on the particulars are here at Black and Red United. The headline includes the words “worst” and “nightmare,” which pretty much says it all.
