What Twitter says about Jordi Alba’s 94th minute winner for Barcelona

Celtic was literally seconds from pulling off the shock “upset.” The upset in this case would have been just a draw, but for the Scottish giants to escape Barcelona’s famous Nou Camp with a point would have qualified as “massive accomplishment.” (Especially considering how it could have boosted confidence and point standings in Group G as Celtic fights for second place behind favorite Barca.)

But Celtic goalkeeper Ben Foster could not reach a semi-speculative, fairly-desperate ball played wisely into the far post. Jordi Alba did – and Scottish hearts were broken.

Here’s what some of the “knowns” from the Twitter world said about it:

You hit it on the head, Steve. I’m not a Celtic fan, but I was heartbroken for them as well when that second goal went in. Part of me thinks Forster could have dealt with the ball in a little better, but he had a fantastic game overall as did his entire squad. Barcelona were the better team and deserved to win, but Celtic played their asses off and deserve credit for their performance.

Just two years ago, Celtic – after having been knocked out of the Champions League prior to the group stages – went to FC Utrecht in the Europa League and lost 4-0. They’ve come from that to going toe to toe with Barcelona – in their house – for 94 minutes and being about 30 seconds away from getting out with a point. Neil Lennon certainly has things going in the right direction, all the more surprising given the apparent financial limitations they operate under.
