I really don’t want to have to go to Panama needing a point though. I think they are the third best team in the region now and it will be super crazy down there if they are on the verge of their first ever World Cup.

Having said that, losing the first game away should not be that alarming, but the same can’t be said if it’s the other way around. If any, playing the first away might be a best case scenario for Klinsmann to determine who falters in a high pressured final phase game to make any drastic adjustments needed for the next home game. Regardless, the key formula will always to at least tie in the road, but never lose at home. Easier said than done though.

From what I could discern, every country has a similar home and away schedule. The one big disadvantage for the U.S. is that Mexico doesn’t play on U.S. soil in February or March. The important thing is to get a result from the first game. The USMNT doesn’t want to start this tournament in the “hole” coming out of the gate.
