How the heck was Petrescu referee of the year?!!!!! He’s probably the worst except for Marrufo. MLS fans complained that the league and USSF didn’t do enough about poor officiating. Now they’re rewarding poor refs!

I hope we are proven wrong with MLS cup 2012, but based on MLS cup 2011, that was a boring final indeed.

I am not for single table either, but i am not thrilled with LAG vs HOU again. I would not be surprised HOU finds a way to win the game at all costs even if they dull the game out.

In my opinion. Single table is much more exciting. The best team in the course of the Season.

I gathered from Twitter that Prus was injured or ill and retired from reffing. That makes me sad–he was my favorite too. On the other hand, he seemed to be pursuing coaching opportunities, so that’s interesting.

I dunno, Steve — I think you might be a little harsh on Petrescu here. Yes, the Koffie Kick in the video should have been a red card, but it’s easy to cherry pick instances where a ref misses a call one way or another.

(And it could be that I give Petrescu *too* much credit. I’ve always thought highly of him for the way he handled the Zakuani-Mullan game. Yes, that game — he came right out with a red card for Mullan, no questions asked. Compare that to the games that happened later in the week, where players like Ferreira were chopped down without so much as fouls being called.)

Here’s my question for you: who would you prefer to have calling the game instead? Definitely not Geiger in my book; his tendency to call a number of fouls absolutely disrupts the flow of the game. Probably not Salazar — I think he’s actually a pretty fair ref, but he somehow has a knack for constantly ending up as the central story of the game. Toledo? Maruffo? Kennedy? Each of those seems to come with a set of detractors.

On the whole, I think I’m happiest with Petrescu. I also l liked Prus — where has he been lately?
