What a fourth consecutive Houston Dynamo MVP award says about Brad Davis
Nov 28, 2012, 9:19 AM EDT
That Brad Davis was just named Houston Dynamo Most Valuable Player for a fourth consecutive year should not surprise anyone.
But it does help underscore two important points:
First, it underscores the contrast in this week’s MLS Cup final. While the Los Angeles Galaxy is led by global soccer’s most iconic figure of the last two decades, the U.S. national team’s all-time leading scorer and by Ireland’s longtime captain – David Beckham, Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane, of course – the Dynamo’s guiding light is a man who always had trouble cracking the national team.
What does that mean? What we all know, anyway: that the Dynamo has long found ways to be more than the sum of its parts.
Second, it underscores Davis’ consistency through the years. For instance, by adding goals and assists we see that the Dynamo lefty contributed to exactly as many goals this year as last, when a few of us made a league MVP case for him.
For two years before that, Davis contributed to 17 Dynamo goals.
