CARSON, Calif. – You mean even the weather might look like last year’s MLS Cup?
‘Tis true. Last year’s final between was played on a cool, rainy Southern California afternoon.
This year’s contestants, same as last year’s contestants, as you know, may well see something similar.
The mighty rain system that has potential to do big damage to Northern California will bump its way south over the next few days.
Chances now stand at 30 percent for rain on Saturday. One on the plus side, however: temperatures promised to be a little warmer than the low 50s at kickoff in 2011.
Last year’s the slick field probably played to Houston’s slight advantage, seeing as the Dynamo were decided underdogs in the 2011 final.
This year, given the added attacking dimension Oscar Boniek Garcia provides to Houston’s right side, and the fact that Brad Davis is around to assist with midfield possession, a slightly-slicker field probably wouldn’t tilt the field either direction.
The only possible effect would be a slightly increased chance to re-injury to a couple of notable types who have dealt with muscle strains lately, most prominently Landon Donovan and his iffy hamstring.
