Let’s just sit back and watch Lionel Messi score 91 goals

Dec 27, 2012, 1:21 PM EDT

Lionel Messi scored 91 goals in 2012, which is 68 more than the United States national team.

It was, quite simply, one of the more ridiculous outpourings of skill we’ve seen in the past decade. Or ever, really. Richard Farley went with the “Playstation” analysis, and I’m inclined to agree. Except I think if you asked someone to do what Messi does on the field on a Playstation, the gaming system would melt.

Luckily for us, we have the Internet, which produced a wonderful compilation of the little Argentine’s 2012 output. You may have seen it, you may not have seen it; either way, it’s worth watching again. It’s not like you’re doing actual work today.

One thing that always surprises me about these types of Messi-focused clips: The amount of goals he scores with his head. That fact, more than anything I think, shows what a ridiculous player he is. Not only does he have the best footskills in the game, but he has such a good sense of where the ball is going to be that the dude — who is tiny — always finds himself wide open for headers. And he has to be wide open because you know he’s not going to win the ball in the air against most 10th graders.

Watch below. To borrow a phrase from another young genius of sport, we are all witness.
