You also hear that at USMNT training. I’ve played those videos for kids I coached in the past to try to get them all to talk more.

You get that much chatter in a D3 college game. You also do when you play high level mens league where organized defense is imperative to avoid utter failure.

I think you generally get that much barking and yelling at any soccer game above the rec level. And even there, in a lot of cases.

But it’s weird… in all my years of playing, it’s one of those things nobody ever really pointed out. It just sort of happens, and everybody takes it for granted. I don’t know about other players, but I always more or less blocked it out — you learn to hear the “turn!” and “man on!” and basically ignore everything else.

It’s an interesting little topic that doesn’t get discussed much. Or maybe we could say: It’s a lot of talking that doesn’t get talked about a lot.
