Of course, it is easy to get excited by the news of a new DP signing but TFC has had pretty dismal performances with this.

At least on the field, DPs are a pretty mixed bag – they cost a ton (http://tinyurl.com/ad9ku9o) and (http://tinyurl.com/a26qoql) but are not necessarily the highest performers.

Perhaps it is time for a broader discussion of how they get selected and what type of player we should be going for who fits best into this league?

Forget what Frings did in ’02. This needs to come sooner as he’s tying up loads of cash and a DP spot, to boot. Those things need to be spent on higher quality players that will be around for more than a third of a season. When it all boils down, Frings’ leadership and organizational abilities don’t outweigh the fact that most of his salary has been garnered while he’s been injured. Frankly, he’s a liability.

And that’s why today’s news of Cesar signing with TFC is such a positive for the club.
