I agree with what others here have said about Adu needing to be *the* man on his team, and also in a less-physical league than MLS to be successful.

Only problem is, he played in Portugal and never made it anywhere there either…

My only conclusion is that Freddy would be best suited for a 2nd or 3rd division side in Spain or Italy or maybe Brazil. No where else will you find a team needing a go-to playmaker of Freddy’s caliber. He’ll definitely have to come down in price for that to happen, though. It blows my mind that he’s arrogant enough to still think he’s worth his salary after lackluster performance after lackluster performance at most places he’s played. Suck it up and take the pay cut, Freddy. Life can only get easier once you do.

he can only make it on a team where he’s by far the best player. As a Union fan, i was terrified of this move from day one, really moved the team backwords. Great core of young strikers who share the ball…until you throw Adu into the mix.

Hopefully he sells and they can acquire another quality midfielder or CB with the departure of Valdez.

He wouldnt work in seattle he is to self cntered, he nedes to be on a team where he is the man and the only man,He is undoubtably the best player and that wont happen in the mls.
On a side note that leaves another mls team with a dp spot opened..

Seems to me like MLS isn’t the right *kind* of league for Adu. Ignoring chatter about coach conflicts, not reaching potential, never earning his salary etc. The bottom line is, he is a creative/finesse playmaker, and MLS is a leauge that allows too much physical play and doesn’t reward Adu’s style of play.

Could you get him in a PERFECT situation and have it work? Probably. A place like Seattle, where they need a playmaker, could work. Adu creating for EJ could be a thing of beauty.

I wouldn’t bet on it, though.

He’d be better plying his trade in a league that was a bit more wide open, less physical, and gave you more chances to run in space and create. Hey … where are those highlights from Jozy’s hat trick?

Admittedly an odd set of circumstances. But Hackworth is no dummy. If he felt Adu could help his club on the pitch and in the locker room, he would find a way to make it work. An experiment that just did not work…
