I think Adu playing with Porter in his system would be intriguing to watch. However, I don't think it will happen for two reason. One is playing time. I think Freddy still looks at himself as a must start, first XI guy on any team he goes to. In Portland I think he would have to be bench/role player, at least to start the season. That leads to the second reason why I don't think he would end up in Portland, his salary. I don't think Freddy is ready to take a pay cut that his lack of production seems to indicate he would have to go to Portland or probably anywhere else in MLS. I just can't see the Timbers paying six figures for a guy that will be a bench player.

But I like your thinking of having play with a coach that he has had some success with. I think he played pretty well in the U-23 tournament with Porter at the helm and Porter plays a style that fits his strengths. I just don't think Freddy is self-aware enough to realize that taking a pay cut and reduced playing time to go to a good fit and playing his way back into a starter is a better move than bouncing around to the highest bidder and never thinking of how he fits into that team.

Any chance Porter would have any interest in Freddy Adu? Just curious since he's worked with him in the past with the U-23s ... Also, with Adu obviously on his way out of Philly, I can't imagine he ends up anywhere else in MLS unless it is with a coach who knows him (and actually thinks he has something positive to offer). I suppose that means Adu will end up somewhere in Russia or something.
