Getty Images The transition at Chivas USA continues with Nick LaBrocca’s trade late last week to Colorado. He isn’t Mexican or Mexican-American enough for the new regime.
Neither was Casey Townsend, who is now with D.C. United.
So the fire sale seems officially “on” as it concerns players who aren’t Chivas enough for Chivas USA. And there are two potential prizes.
Shalrie Joseph can be a fit in the right system, as we discussed earlier. Seeing as the Goats have lost leverage by being so forthright with their personnel plans, Chivas may need to eat a percentage of Joseph’s DP-level salary. Or he could renegotiate his deal, although pride could be an obstacle to that route.
Either way, a team could presumably get Joseph on the cheap.
But the real deal could be had with Dan Kennedy (pictured). Somewhere between 10-12 teams could probably upgrade their goalkeeping situation with Kennedy between the pipes.
The question, of course, is what the current ‘keeper scene looks at some of these places, whether it makes sense to give Chivas an asset (draft pick, allocation money, international slot, another player, whatever) for an marginal upgrade.
Clearly, for a few teams that have a sizable need in goal, Kennedy could be a premium find at a bargain price.
