Hell…..I can’t fault a guy for doing whatever he wants to do. It’s a free country, after all.

But….the one thing I’d say is that these are his last years to be a world-class soccer player. In a few years, he’ll be declining and in 5-6 years his skills won’t be enough that he can play at a level he finds acceptable. There will be plenty of time to chill out then whereas he can’t ever get these 30-ish years back.

I’m torn between wanting Landon to have some semblance of a normal life and wanting him to come back and lead the USMNT to glory. Or at least a berth.

Our top level players are essentially kidnapped by the USSF at a very young age, and programmed into soccer robots. For years my brother and I have called them “Sunil’s Kids.” At some point you have to stop and smell the roses, or you might get stuck with some version of Clint Dempsey’s “perma-grimace.” I’m told his face is stuck that way now.

I know and respect that you guys may be keeping a little gunpowder in your rifle. But, it would be awesome to read a PST analysis of possible Donovan story arcs. Errrr. I mean, for instance, if he sits out the remainder of his contract, how would that affect his potential re-entry to soccer sometime down the line. Stuff like that. Just a suggestion. Keep churning out the good stuff, guys.
