On Saturday, the United States women’s national team starts the future again

AP On Saturday in Jacksonville, the United States women’s national team takes on Scotland in the first match of Tom Sermanni’s coaching career. The women did the beep tests, scrimmaged, and scrimmaged some more, but now it’s time for the official thing.
2013 will be an important year for the USWNT as they adjust to their new coach who will certainly make some changes to the aging squad that could use an injection of youth. Crystal Dunn, Julie Johnston, and Whitney Engen are young talents that could get a run during the two games against Scotland but they are mostly just getting a taste of national team life. Still, expect one, if not all, of the trio to figure at some point in the near future. Additionally, Ali Krieger is returning from injury but Amy LePeilbet is out, so Sermanni will have to figure out the back line.
There’s still plenty of talent on the American squad, but it’s going to be a difficult task to organize it all. The journey starts tomorrow.
