Hey Cornet76 - I too got a little nostalgic/retrsopective for the USMNT players of years past. Who would you swap out for our current qualifying lineup? Castrol put together this lineup of US greats - only Landon Donovan made the cut and he may be out the door?

Does this mean that we are doomed for 2014?

did Landon ultimately take Joe Max's spot on the team? Moore was a big part of qualification if I remember correctly, especially against Jamaica, while Donovan didn't really show up til the end of the Hex.

"And it was surely the right choice back in 2001, in perhaps the most storied home qualifier in U.S. Soccer history, the match known as La Guerra Fria (“The Cold War”).Just in case you don’t remember that one … brrrrrr!."

Most US fans don't remember that far back.

Given the current near hysterical status of the fan base after the loss to Honduras they should look at their history a little more before jumping out the window.

That team went on to have arguably the best USMNT World Cup ever in 2002.

Care to guess how their HEX campaign went?

They finished in third place with 17 points.

On the way they lost to Honduras (3-2) , Costa Rica ( 2-0) and Mexico (1-0).

Qualifying was achieved only after the second to the last game of the HEX, a 2-1 win over Jamaica at Foxboro.
