I agree with Theirry on this on a side note though, if i was an athlete id never want to go on that show that woman isnt even talking abou sports and it in a way brings you down, like talking about but models, talk about the sports, get steve davis on there id rather watch that i dont want some woman talking about buts, also she then said “people like me who never will watch soccer” Like really if i was him id be poed, like really firzt off people like you who wont give new things a chance, really all your doing is following around the media instead of making your own decision, stupid. He seemed mad though and he had reason to be, i some what like the idea of the show to maybe bring twitter and some of the off the field issues onto the show but its just ot far.

I have to respectfully disagree. We are talking about the same thing. The definition of racism is:

Noun
1. The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as…
2. Prejudice or discrimination directed against someone of a different race based on such a belief.

Chivas’ stated goal is a team of players from one ethnic group. The premise I assume is to improve the team, that players of that ethnic group are superior in some way. That players of other ethnic groups somehow are not as good as players from their desired ethnic group. It is textbook racism even if it’s slightly less obvious than the ignorant pissbags in the stands making monkey noises.

The interview MLS was displayed stated the driving force behind the change is to engage the Chivas fans. This really worries me. So to appease it’s fans instead of building a team of top notch players Chivas is building a team of players from one ethnic group. This is a team pandering to the exact same sensibilities that were directed at Altidore. A team in MLS. In 2013. A team that thinks it’s a good idea to encourage that kind of fan support.

Even if you disagree that Chivas’ policy is racism it is by their admission discrimination based on ethnic origin. How on earth anyone can defend it I am at a loss to explain. Players that use the a gay slur get a 4 game suspension, a team that proudly states they plan on discriminating based on ethnic background gets…. a wink and a nod?

The only solace I take is that it is a really dumb policy. While I am not sure Chivas can get any worse this will certainly not make them a contender.

It’s a fair question, and we can certainly debate that organizational model. But I do believe we are talking about two very different things here, an idealistic development model with nationalistic tones vs. monkey noises directed toward black players.
