The Luis Suarez links to Bayern Munich keep coming

Fresh off scoring an absolute lash of a volley in Uruguay’s 1-1 draw with Paraguay in Friday’s World Cup Qualifier, Luis Suarez has raised concerns among Liverpool fans with news that his agent is none other than Pep Guardiola’s brother, Pere Guardiola.

The connection will add anxieties at the Kop where rumors have swirled that Bayern Munich are preparing to provide Guardiola, who is set to take over for manager Jupp Heynckes at the end of the season, with a $365 million transfer kitty for summer purchases of his choosing.

Matters took another turn for the worse while giving an interview on international duty four days ago when Suarez admitted that clubs with prospects of competing in next year’s Champions League are “very welcome” to make an approach for the man many consider to be top of the list for Premier League player of the year.

Liverpool, obviously keen on keeping the striker they re-signed last summer to wages of more than $152,000 per week, are adamant the 26 year old will stay at the club. The club also claims that the comments Suarez made on international duty were merely lost in translation. Piggybacking this sentiment is the fact that Suarez has previously stated his intention to remain at Liverpool. But if the past is any indicator, players tend to say a lot of things in their native language that get chalked up to being ‘lost in translation,’ only to come back and ring true.

In addition to Munich, Suarez is rumored to be sought after by Juventus and Manchester City. His potential transfer value is believed to be in the range of $45-$90 million, a fee that City and Munich should have no issue covering. While Liverpool will fight tooth-and-nail to hold on to their star, the old addage ‘money talks‘, remains the name of the game in world football.

With news of Suarez’ link to Pep’s brother and the fact that must clubs prefer not to sell players to another club in the same league (although it worked out OK for Liverpool in the Fernando Torres deal), Bayern feels like Suarez’ likely resting place come next fall.
