Philadelphia’s Jack McInerney would be league’s youngest Golden Boot winner

We keep saying that we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves on Jack McInerney’s sensational season around PPL Park – but it’s just so darned tempting.

So here’s a little factoid to stick in your back pocket, carry around with you, maybe even drop it at your next cocktail party or meet-up with fellow soccer friends:

McInerney, 20, would indeed be the league’s youngest Golden Boot Winner to date if he continues to lead the league in scoring. He would be 21 by about three months when the regular season closes in late October.

“Jack Mac” currently leads the league with eight goals.

Stern John was still 21 when he won in 1998, but he was just days away from turning 22 as the league’s third season came to a close. (John, a former Trinidad and Tobago international, went on to establish a pretty solid career in England, mostly in the country’s second tier.)

Taylor Twellman was 22 when he captured the Golden Boot in 2002.
