Instagram: You can take Brek Shea out of Texas …

Jun 24, 2013, 8:52 PM EDT

source: What’s the old saying? You can take the subject out of geographic location, but you can’t take the geography out of the subject?

Yes. I’m sure that’s exactly how the saying goes.

Brek Shea, who has been in Dallas since Stoke City’s season ended, embodies that missive in an image posted to his Instagram account earlier today. Sun’s out, so guns are out for the winger, whose likely to participate in the Gold Cup this summer, having recovered from a calf injury.

While it’s a little scary to think of the rich guy at the end of the cul-de-sac having that type of artillery in his garage, it’s even scarier to think about the decision-making process that let to those clothes. The shirt definitely fits the occasion, but the shorts look like they were designed by the American Psilocybin Society. And the socks? Well the joke’s on us, because we’re looking at grandad’s wardrobe.

Perhaps this doesn’t quite reach the level of the infamous pony picture, but Shea’s added another chapter to his growing digital lore, one that confirms you can take the winger out of Texas, but you can’t take that Texan pride out of the winger.

Nobody ever accused Brek of being the sharpest knife in the draw.

Its not the least bit scary that he has that artillery.

Shea is not the kind of gun owner that we need to worry about.

Really……it’s just two shotguns. They just look scary to people because they don’t have wood stocks on them.

I really enjoy that Shea isn’t afraid to be himself. He’s just kinda wide open. It’ll probably bite him in the butt someday and he’ll tone it down thereafter, but in a world where lots of athletes are boring as sin, I’ll take a guy with a little personality and entertainment value.

That’s what they said about the Blade Runner…….

Frankly, you should be worried about ALL gun owners.

I’m 85% sure that he is wearing swim trunks.

A couple more photos like that, and he’ll have to move to the right wing 😛

Not sure what all the huff is about this.

Just to make sure we’re clear, the writer is saying two things. 1) Shea looks like a dork, that’s a given. Sorry. If that’s the standard Texan look, I’m a cat. The writer is correct, he looks like grandad. 2) If the way you make yourself look macho is to hold up two pump action pistol grip shotguns, you’re a little desperate. Gee, if only he was a good football player, then he wouldn’t have to stand in his yard to look macho, he could stand on the pitch and look macho.

Let me add my own, if you’re stupid enough to let someone take a picture of you in that stance and in those clothes, and then add insult to injury and post it on the web, you are the height of geek. I hunted for years with my father, and there are many pictures, usually with a gun, the appropriate one to the sport, and what we bagged. But there are no dork pictures of us standing with two guns in dorky clothes looking stupid, while thinking we look cool.
