Bayern Munich are blazing a new trail, in a way.
Having accomplished an unprecedented European treble last season, they’ve already stepped into rare stomping grounds. Now, they’ll have to attempt to defend their titles under the command of a new manager.
With world-renowned manager Pep Guardiola now at the helm, captain Philipp Lahm believes things will be quite different than they were during last season’s success.
“He is very communicative” said Lahm of Guardiola. “He wants us to learn and understand his system quickly. You can see that there will be many changes.”
Lahm and others, such as Franck Ribery and Thomas Mueller were overly impressed with Guardiola’s German – he’s only been speaking the language for six months.
The Spaniard has made a good first impression on the club, but now it’s time for them to mold to his new styles and priorities.
“Just as if someone at a company gets a new boss, suddenly new values are set on new things” said Lahm. “It is too early to analyze this, but the players are attentive and observant. We have a long time to prepare and get used to each other, so I am not worried.”
Guardiola will man the touchline for the first time with Bayern on July 8 in a friendly with Italian second-tier side Brescia. His first competative action will be in the German Super Cup July 27 against heated rivals and Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund.
