Edinson Cavani “has heart set on move to English Premier League”

Edinson Cavani really doesn’t want to stay at Napoli, does he?

It seems as though every week he is speaking out about “his love and admiration for (insert team name here)” and how he wants to work under the top managers in the world.

Cavani has waxed lyrical about the English Premier League a few weeks ago in the linked video, and sources close to the player have revealed that one team in particular hold top spot in Cavani’s heart: Chelsea. The Uruguayan international also wants to work under José Mourinho as a manager he wanted to work with.

“Look I don’t know if Chelsea have made an offer for me. As I said, all I know is that I want to be trained by managers of that kind of level. Such as Mourinho and Pellegrini.”

But after those comments, Cavani kept his mouth shut after the Confederations Cup third-place match against Italy. The Uruguayan striker scored twice but, as Steve Davis reported in this very blog, he decided not to further fuel the fire about his potential whereabouts when August rolls around.

“Everything I say at the moment could be misunderstood, so I prefer not to talk about the future. … I’m going on holiday with my family and then I will come back to Italy to consider the whole situation.”

Good lad. Take a break, lie on the sunbed and decide what to do. Either way you’re a winner. Well, unless you decide to stay in Naples. Because that will just be awkward.

Fans in the Southern Italian city aren’t scared of voicing their opinion and although Cavani led Serie A with 29 goals last term, he won’t be welcomed back with open arms after the comments he has made whilst on Confederations Cup duty this summer. Even his parents have got in on the act, with his Mom and Dad stating Real Madrid would be Cavani’s next club.

Other sources have suggested that despite Paris Saint-Germain leading the financial race for Cavani, the 26-year-old striker is holding out for a move to England over PSG and Real Madrid.

Cavani, his sources and probably his Mom and Dad will have plenty to say before this summer is over. But in the next week or so we will see just how much EPL giants Chelsea and Manchester City want to sign the bruising striker they call El Matador.
