Luis Suarez loves to have a little chat with South American radio stations.
And, shock horror, he’s been at it again.
Liverpool’s 26-year-old forward gave the latest in a long line of interviews, stating that there are “two or three teams that are possibilities” but he also said “a phone call can change all of those plans.”
With Arsenal the only club to have made an official bid for Suarez, he is believed to be holding out for a move to Real Madrid. However the Uruguayan striker did reveal his surprise that the Gunners came calling.
The big thing for me is, why does Suarez keep talking out about his plans to move away from Liverpool? Surely staying silent and biting the bullet will be better for him.
He is trying to engineer himself a move away from Anfield, that is blatantly obvious. Painfully obvious.
But Suarez is making a mistake by doing a lot of the legwork himself. That is what he has an agent for, and a very good one at that in Pep Guardiala’s brother Pere.
So, we might as well join in and speculate about Suarez’ next destination. Here are three of the clubs who are interested in him, but will he go there?
After having an audacious $45 million turned down emphatically, will Arsenal dive back in and up the ante? I doubt it. If anything Arsene Wenger’s cheeky bid made have just been there to sound out the waters. It could also have greater significance if Gonzalo Higuain’s move is stalling from Real Madrid. Either way, Suarez to Arsenal just wouldn’t work. His rough and tumble style doesn’t fit with their ethos and any insubordination would be stamped out ruthlessly by Wenger. Him and Suarez wouldn’t get on. I’m sure of it.
Suarez’ preferred destination, and probably the best place for him at this point. Madrid have money to spend and need a prolific striker to join Cristiano Ronaldo in their hunt for Champions League success. Suarez would bring goals, guile and an extra bite (too, soon?) to Madrid’s play as Carlo Ancelotti looks to remould the squad he inherited from José Mourinho. Suarez can be the figurehead.
Like Arsenal, more of a pawn in the “Where will Suarez go?” saga, but still Mourinho would love to grab Suarez and unleash him on the EPL. But the big factor that comes into play with Arsenal and Chelsea is that Suarez doesn’t want to stay in the EPL. He says his family are unhappy and he feels victimized by the British media. Let’s see if he still feels that way when Roman Abramovich offers him a huge wad of cash and his yacht down in Monaco. Liverpool will hike up his transfer fee if English clubs come calling but despite his obvious flaws, with a ball at his feet, Suarez is worth every penny.
