David Beckham set for ambassador role at Paris Saint-Germain?

France Soccer League One

Reports this morning claim David Beckham may be heading back to Paris sooner than we all thought.

But this time Becks could act as an adviser to PSG’s owners or possibly become an ambassador for the club.

After PSG’s Sporting Director Leonardo was banned by the French Football Federation for 13 months — due to pushing a referee in the tunnel following a Ligue 1 game last season — PSG’s mega-rich Qatari ownership group want an experienced individual to advise them on soccer matters according to Les Parisien.

Beckham could be their man.

However would the former England international really move to Paris full-time to help out the club he finished his career with? I’m not so sure.

Yes, Beckham would love to help out the side as they struggle to get themselves ready for their French title defense this season. The Leonardo saga has enraptured much of their off season efforts, and their appeal to the original eight-month ban has now seen the Brazilian figurehead out of the picture for a large period of time and he’s handed in his resignation.

Although the 38-year-old Englishman would be perfect in ambassadorial role, I just can’t seem he diving straight back into the rigors of professional soccer at one of Europe’s top clubs. Not now anyway.

He seems to be enjoying his break away from the game and after dedicating his life to the sport, Beckham deserves some time in the shadows. Certainly his advice to the Qatari group running PSG would be invaluable. Leonardo has guided them on signings and appointment of managers but now he is out of the picture, Beckham could arrive upstairs. PSG’s President Nasser Al-Khelaifi did hint back in May that Beckham could remain as a member of their front office. But what form that comes in remains to be seen.

It is thought he could help new manager Laurent Blanc in securing signings and help use his vast experience to PSG’s advantage. Maybe Becks is doing it already via phone calls and private meetings behind the scenes? Who knows.

But having Beckham dive right back into soccer in a formal role with PSG doesn’t make that much sense. He should weigh up his options of potentially coaching, a similar ambassador role for England or the other clubs he played for, or what about his potential ownership of an MLS franchise?

Can he do all these things at once? Of course he can. He is, after all, David Beckham.

I am a Becks fan, but its getting hard to keep track of all the teams and organizations he is an “ambassador” for.

    1. LA Galaxy
    2. MLS
    3. The unofficial football ambassador to China
    4. PSG

    Did I miss any?
