Norwich City 2 – Everton 2: Canaries and Toffees draw in pulsating clash (Video)

Aug 17, 2013, 12:29 PM EDT

In the game of the weekend so far, Norwich City and Everton went toe-to-toe in their 2-2 draw at Carrow Road.

All the goals came in the second half as the Canaries struck first through Steven Whittaker. But soon after Everton were level as Ross Barkley scored a stunning left-footed strike, then they took the lead when Seamus Colmean tapped home.

But the home side looked dangerous on the break and new signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel scored the equalizer with a looping header to send both teams home happy after an entertaining clash.

Norwich City took the lead in the 50th minute, when right back Whittaker scored a great goal. The Scotsman marauded forward from defense, as the Canaries hit Everton on the counter. Whittaker got lucky with a few bounces but his 60-yard run saw him get to the edge of the box before curling a wonderful left-footed shot against the post.

Barkley hammered home his first goal for Everton.

The rebound came back out and Whittaker, to his credit, continued to keep up with the play and slotted the ball home expertly with his right foot.

But Everton youngster Ross Barkley then scored a wonder goal in the 60th minute after good work from Seamus Coleman.

The local boy scored his first-ever goal for the club, as he collected a square ball from Coleman on the edge of the box. Barkley, 19, then shuffled the ball from his right foot onto his left and smashed home an unstoppable drive to make it 1-1 with 30 minutes to go at Carrow Road.

Then in the 65th minute, Everton took the lead through Seamus Coleman, as Nikica Jelavic having a shot saved by John Ruddy.

What an incredible 15 minute spell.

But take a breath, the scoring wasn’t over. On 71 minutes Norwich were back on level terms as $14 million summer signing van Wolfswinkel superbly headed Whittaker’s arching cross home, past US international Tim Howard.

Both teams pushed for the winner but a draw was a fair result with the points shared after a scintillating show at Carrow Road.
