Club Tijuana’s Champions League match postponed by nasty weather (now updated with result)

Club Tijuana, the Liga MX side that includes six Americans, have a big opportunity in CONCACAF Champions League, having already drawn on the road at El Salvador’s Firpo and facing Honduras’ CD Victoria on Tuesday. The Xolos would then have had their final two group paly matches back at the Estadio Caliente, just north the U.S.-Mexican border.

But U.S. internationals Herculez Gomez, Joe Corona, Edgar Castiloo and the rest of the roster, Americans and otherwise, apparently will have to wait a while longer to know how close they are to elimination round play next year.

According to the Xolos official Twitter feed, some very nasty weather in Honduras forced postponement of Tuesday’s match.

First the Twitter alerts talked of downpours, then of teams leaving the field, and then finally of power being gone at the stadium and, well, that apparently was that.

(UPDATE, 8:12 a.m. Wednesday … The match ultimately resumed in La Ceiba, where the Xolos downed beat CD Victoria, 3-2, following a delay of more than two hours. American Paul Arriola had one of Tijuana’s goals; Diego Olsina added a second goal before the half, and Crisitian Pellerano had the 69th-minute game-winner.)
