Eddie Johnson knows that he has a golden opportunity to shine in the world of soccer and his strong work ethic won’t allow him to falter. His coach has given him the confidence he needs to become a star in MLS.

    EJ is 29 y/o, which is approaching old age in soccer life. He will have little or no sell on value in year or two.

    I agree. EJ is a great player, but he’s getting old. Klinsy should search for another 27 or 28 year old player. This has become a trend lately through out the world of soccer. Instead of just calling up young talent, teams calling up mid to old age players to give them a chance at the international stage or just because they’re hot at the club level. I think Klinsy actually knows about this, because he was the one that starting calling up EJ again. Wondo is another. Also Davis. In my opinion, Klinsy should give Mike Magee a look.

      hildezero,

      It has always been this way.

      The USMNT is not a club team. Which means the manager can only focus on the upcoming major tournament . Which means the USMNT has a four year cycle unlike for example, Spain which has a two year window, with the Euros and the World Cup in their mix.

      JK’s contract only runs to the end of the 2014 World Cup so that is his entire focus. He does not care if you are 17, 27 or 37. If it looks like you can help in 2014 he will consider you. Like most international managers he really does not have a long term future with the US as a manager.

      The 23 man World Cup roster has no room for people who cannot contribute in 2014 so none of this put so and so in the end of the bench so he can learn and contribute in 2018.

      By the way Mike Magee is 29 and six months younger than EJ.

    @schmutzdeck,

    I understand that, but you’re not getting my point. Sure, as long as you are a great player you can play with the national team. But do you really think that Klinsy doesn’t care about the future of US Soccer? I’m sure he wants to win the World Cup next year by bringing in the best players. Like I said, EJ is a great player, but he’s getting old. Klinsy should try bringing in younger players than him. Now, is the time to do it before Klinsy officially has to call up the World Cup players. EJ hasn’t really shown he deserves to be in Brazil. Magee is a great player, which I thought he was 28. In that case I would go with Will Bruin or Alan Gordon.
