It’s official – Cristiano Ronaldo will remain in Madrid for the forseeable future after inking a new long-term deal with Los Blancos.

The contract will run through 2018, Madrid have confirmed. There is no official confirmation on value, but according to Spanish reports it will be worth about €17 million annually ($22.6 million).

Ronaldo, sporting an absolutely stunning pair of glasses, appeared at a press conference in Madrid this morning to announce the deal and sign the papers in front of cameras.

Ronaldo told reporters “it’s the fans that keep me here” and that he could see himself in a Madrid shirt for the “rest of my career.”

Real president Florentino Perez said “Cristiano’s numbers are simply mind-blowing, and there are lots more goals, triumphs, and trophies to come from Ronaldo.”

Despite many rumors over the summer that he would make a storied return to Manchester United, Ronaldo told reporters at the contract unveiling this morning, “an agreement took place at the end of last season. I then gave my word to Real and the chairman gave his to me.”

This seems to be typical chatter after having signed a new deal, but it at least gives us a look into the fact there probably was talk of a new deal long into the past.

Since joining Real Madrid from Manchester United in 2009 for the then-world record transfer fee, the 28-year-old has 148 goals in La Liga play, and 203 goals in all competitions in exactly the same amount of matches.
