The Michael Jackson statue that was installed at Craven Cottage by former Fulham FC owner Mohamed Al Fayed is set to be removed from the grounds.
The statue, which was erected in 2011 as a tribute to the signer (who Al Fayed claimed was a fan of the Cottagers), is set to be transported to another of the former owner’s properties.
The future of the statue became a point of interest this summer when Al Fayed sold Fulham to American businessman Shahid Khan.
Many believed Al Fayed would remove the statue but after Khan threatened to chop off the new owner’s moustache if he did, the mantle looked set to stay.
Now Khan can keep his trademark handlebars and rid himself of the landmark that, upon installation, was met with ridicule by many supporters of Fulham.
Aside from attending a few Fulham matches during his lifetime, Jackson’s connection to Fulham was speculative at best. Yet despite this fact the keepsake was an oddity that, over the last two years, endeared itself to the hearts of fans who visit the Cottage.
The date of removal has yet to be announced. Fulham is away at Chelsea this weekend before returning to the Cottage on September 28th for a clash with Cardiff City.
