Borussia Dortmund’s wantaway striker will finally make his dream come true. A move to Bayern is just around the corner.
Robert Lewandowski, 25, will confirm his move to the reigning German and European champions Bayern Munich in January, according to reports.
In case you needed a quick recap of the situation, Dortmund refused Lewandwoski a summer-switch to their fierce Bundesliga rivals, despite their star striker only having a year left on his contract which meant he could leave for free in 2014. Consequently, Lewandowski threw his dummy out of the pram, but it seems all that kicking and screaming may get him a move sooner than many expected.
A pre-contract agreement will be signed in January, and Dortmund may let him leave then instead of waiting until the summer. That’s according to the Polish international striker, who was interviewed by Sky Deutschland last night.
Yes, because I can officially sign the new contract in January. Right now, I can’t say anything. Normally, I can only reveal it officially in January. At this moment, it is still too early and we’ll have to wait a bit. But I think, I can leave in January.
There still seems to be quite a bit of confusion here, but the giant Polish striker is definitely heading to Munich, that we do know. And nobody who pays attention to European soccer will be surprised by that. Lewandowski has been pining for this move for a long time, and he has fallen out with most at Dortmund about it.
He clearly thinks he has done all he can at the Westfalenstadion, and after seeing long-time teammate Maario Gotze jump ship to Bayern over the summer, the striker wants to link up with his old partner in crime and Bayern’s whole host of other attacking talents. This rivalry between the two clubs has only intensified since Munich beat Dortmund 2-1 in last seasons UEFA Champions League final, and the thought of Lewandowski, Mario Mandzukic and Thomas Muller linking up is quite scary.
Come January, Munich will be stacked with top strikers, Dortmund will be lacking firepower and, finally, Robert Lewandowski will be happy.
