Malky Mackay and Cardiff owner at odds over suspension of assistant

Malky Mackay has insisted he will not step down despite finding himself outraged by the seemingly random decision of Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan to suspend Head of Recruitment Ian Moody.

Moody is a valued member of Mackay’s staff, having followed the head man from Watford to Cardiff in 2011.

Tan has now appointed Kazakhstani Alisher Apsalyamov to the position, who reportedly is a friend of Tan’s son and has no previous experience in the sport of soccer.

According to the Daily Mail, Apsalyamov is in England on a temporary visa, and attended school in Switzerland with the owner’s son U-Juin.

Moody, who helped secure Gary Medel, Steven Caulker, and Frazier Campbell at Cardiff among others, is one of Mackay’s favorite assistants, and the decision to place the coach on gardening leave has infuriated the Scottish manager.

This isn’t the first time Tan has caused a stir at Cardiff.  He previously changed the color of the Bluebirds’ kit from blue to red, and has hinted at a desire to change the club’s name.

The Daily Mail says that Cardiff declined to comment and that investigation into Moody is pending, but the cause of the discipline is unknown.

Mackay has the newly-promoted Bluebirds at 14th in the Premier League table.

There is no way this ends well. Reminds me of the Venky’s people of Blackburn – and look how that turned out

The very worst place you could put someone with no experience in soccer is at a position where they must secure talent, this will blow up in the owner’s face in many ways.

Sounds like the pilot for a new Welsh sitcom.
