El Clasico is never, ever over once the referee blows the whistle on full-time.
After Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 2-1 at the Camp Nou on Saturday, fans were yet again treated to a litany of elations, accusations, and explanations.
The highlight of the bunch was Sergio Busquets, but we touch on Carlo Ancelotti first.
The Real Madrid manager didn’t hesitate to criticize the referee for what he believed to be two penalty shouts that were missed.
First, regarding Javier Mascherano’s push of Cristiano Ronaldo in the box with the score at 1-0, Ancelotti said, “I think it was a clear penalty. Everyone saw it except the referee.”
He then referred to a possible handball Adriano, saying, “That was a difficult decision, if he gives a penalty he will have to have given a card as well.” The potential card would have left Barcelona with 10-men, with Adriano already on a yellow.
Madrid defender Sergio Ramos agreed with Ancelotti regarding the first penalty, saying, “We have been harmed, the penalty was so clear. There are things that we can’t fight against.”
Busquets, having heard Ancelotti’s comments on the referee, condemned Los Blancos.
“Madrid crying about the referee? They always look for excuses. They have no reason to complain, not today, not earlier this season” said Busquets. “The easy excuse is by the referee. Same as always. They cannot complain precisely this year about the officials. But if they do, they do.”
Meanwhile, Neymar was savoring his goal that eventually boosted Barcelona to victory. “It was very emotional to score in the game in which all players want to play” said the 21-year-old. “I had seen many Clasicos, so it was great to play one. But it was so hard against a great team. Cristiano [Ronaldo] is a great player, but we have also many good players.”
